Sacred Social is an approach to using social media in a way that is deeply rooted with intention, creativity and flow. It means using social media to build a business and lifestyle that is in complete alignment with who you are.
How did you discover that a big part of your heart-centered business would have to do with helping women create sacred and intentional social media practices? Have you always viewed social media this way?
I fell in love with social media while I was at university studying marketing and journalism. While I was still being taught more traditional methods of marketing and journalism, I made it my mission to explore the realm of social media and online communications (which I knew would have a huge role and impact on the world).
In my last year of university, I started my own business and worked as a social media manager for two years before discovering the concept of sacred social media.
While so many people viewed social media as ‘noisy’ and ‘saturated’, I always saw it in a different light. I saw it as a space to express myself creatively, build genuine connection, and ultimately connect back with myself.
Social media allowed me to build a beautiful business and step into a magical life completely aligned with who I am. It allowed me to shine my light, share my message and be recognized for my gifts. And I really just want to be able to share that with others too!
So much of what we read or learn about social media can be disempowering but there are no cookie-cutter strategies or silver bullets to success. The only way to use social media is in a way that feels really, really good to you. It’s that simple!
What are a few of the key limiting beliefs that were difficult for you to overcome as you began to honor your souls calling and run your own online business?
I started my business in my last year of university because I didn’t want to go and work in a corporate environment. So in the first two years of business, I was really just aiming for a business that allowed me to work my own hours, on my own terms, from my own home.
The biggest limiting beliefs came when I realised that I didn’t want to be freelancer, I wanted to be a leader. This meant that I had to stop trading hours for dollars and start creating my life’s work.
With this came two key limiting beliefs:
1. "I have to work really, really hard to earn a good income in business."
2. “My creative gifts and ideas are not worthy."
Since working through those limiting beliefs, I’ve found most of my key limiting beliefs are now based around visibility.
What is something you wish you had known earlier on in your life, that you have learned through your own spiritual journey?
It sounds simple but it would be this: you are not your thoughts.
Can you tell us a bit about your Sacred Social program and the process of how it was brought to life?
I mentioned before that social media has always felt like a gift to me. I truly believe that social media changed my life… in the best and most beautiful way.
But working as a social media manager, I saw so many disempowering messages being shared about social media. And I realised that there was nobody teaching women in business how to show up on social media in a really soulful and sacred way.
It was in March 2017 that I came up with the idea for my online program Sacred Social which teaches women in business how to use social media in a way that is deeply rooted with intention, creativity and flow.
Creating Sacred Social was the most beautiful and transformative process. It took ten months of creative deep dive to brainstorm, write, launch and deliver the first round of Sacred Social but it was so worth it. I truly believe that Sacred Social is a huge part of my life’s work and I can’t wait to see how it grows over the years.
How do you feel being intentional in your business and social media has helped it to thrive and expand? Do you have any special practices or rituals you lean on when making decisions for the direction of your business?
If it weren’t for intention then I would have quit my business a very long time ago. Intention is my secret weapon!
My business was created as a way for me to show up as my best self. That’s who Sophie Zen is, she’s my highest self. So when I need some business advice or need to make a big decision, I always connect with Sophie Zen through meditation or journaling.
I like the idea of working with your business - not just working in your business or on your business. So it helps to see my business as its own unique energy and entity. That way, we can commune and co-create together.
What are 3 nuggets of wisdom you feel you could share based on your experience, with someone who is dreaming of starting their own soul-centered business, or recently has, but may be experiencing doubt & fear?
My first piece of advice is something that was shared with me from a soul sister who said: “The end never justifies the means”. Basically, show up in your business the way that you most want it to be. Don’t sacrifice your present for the hope of success or abundance or happiness in the future.
Following on from that, tell the universe what you most desire and then take actions that align with your desire. Be really, really clear and unapologetic for what you want.
Finally, don’t cancel your order and don’t back down. If you want something, go for it. There may be detours and dead ends and times when the road is bumpy but keep moving towards your dreams. You’ll get there!
What does your daily spiritual practice look like? Does it change or do you prefer structure around it?
I’m a woman of routine but a lover of seasons and cycles. This means that I’ll create a practice and stick to it for as long as it serves me… but I’m not afraid to stop and move onto another practice when the seasons change.
At the moment, my morning meditation is a non-negotiable practice. It’s he first thing that I do when I get into my office and it sets the tone for the day.
Other than that, I try to find sacred moments in all parts of my day. From choosing essential oils to pop in the diffuser to taking a small walk on my lunch break and cooking dinner for my loved one at the end of the day. It’s all so sacred and it’s all an opportunity to connect back in to spirit.
What is coming up next for you? In your career and on your own personal journey of growth and expansion?
The plan is to dive even deeper into what ‘sacred’ means in all parts of life. Sacred social media has been a beautiful place to start but I’m ready to explore what it looks like to show up in a sacred way in my business, in my community, in my relationships and in my home.
I’m also really passionate about sustainable, slow and simple living (and also words that start with 's' haha). So I’m hoping to bring that all together in my life and work.
